Sorry, sir. No more messing about at the back of the class.
I donāt know but Jacob Rees-Mogg reckons the team that selects the British entry for Eurovision should āget back to basicsā and submit a truely revolutionary song for Europe along the lines of Hinge & Bracket. Lol.
I think that England has given the world so many great musicians and groups, that they just donāt take ESC seriously. They donāt have to prove anyone anything.
I agree. This yearās entry wasnāt very serious. Maybe next timeā¦
Youāre wrong, they too need to prove they can win Eurovision (as in āWeāve still got it, baby!!!ā), as silly as it may look to some of us.
Anyway, I have noticed that many countries send debutantes to this contest, and rightly so. Itās a good opportunity for launching their careers, although it doesnāt really work for each and every one.
Not agreeing or disagreeing but I think TinyK meant it from the perspective that the UK already has a long-established presence on the global music scene so doesnāt need Eurovision to further it. Itās more of a tradition in all its camp gloriousness.
I can imagine some of those countries with a lesser known music scene find it massively helpful as a promotion for careers in music. As it should.
I only argued against the idea that the British donāt take Eurovision seriously; they do, or at least as much as the rest of us do.
As for helping countries with a lesser known musical scene, itās the language. If they sing in English and have something to offer (women singers should be beautiful ;)), they donāt necessarily need Eurovision, they need a powerful record company. Itās the way this world moves.
We havenāt taken it seriously for years, itās all one giant piss take for the brits.
And the world keeps spinning:
Graham Nortonās commentary is justā¦
Nobody takes it very seriouslyā¦yes thereās some hype around it but everyone knows itās entertainment. If itās all one giant piss for the Brits maybe they shouldnāt participate at all.
Sounds a bit like sour grapesā¦havenāt taken it seriously because England didnāt win?
Nope, havenāt taken it seriously because it hasnāt been a serious competition for a very long time.
āYouā is not England. Or youāre the king incognito?!
The fact that people vote, England sends participants and then they vote againā¦speaks otherwise. But I get itā¦
If weāre being picky āEnglandā has never been in the competition.
Fair. Was it Great Britain that was represented? Its always confusing when is it England, when is it Great Britainā¦in any case, āitās not importantā¦ā
Iām English. We havenāt taken it seriously for years. Itās always been a night of comedy.
Seriously, no one takes it seriously.
Yes, yes, I get it. This is why the English, British and Great Britain-ers keep on posting in this thread. Because itās not important. Sureā¦
-Cough- UK.
Anyway, if we did take it seriously we wouldnāt have given the world this iconic scene from Liverpool 2023. Youāre welcomeā¦
