Formula 1

Weather was perfect on Sunday, it was choice between watching F1 and the bicycle…the bicycle won. Watching the highlights of the race today.

What a pass on lap 1 by Verstappen. Piastri had a not so good start, blocked Russel and left the door open to Verstappen who made a clean pass. Clean wheel-to-wheel racing at its best.

Has anyone been to a F1 race in Imola? Was it a good experience?

I was there in 2006, watched Schumi beat Alonso and then waved hi to Alonso in full head-to-toe Ferrari merchandise and a huge flag on my back

It was a great race, and an amazing experience with the V8s back then.

Great race this weekend, unlucky for some people to get screwed by the first or the second SC, but it is what it is…

Thanks!

I’ll try to get tickets for next year and mix it with a road trip to Bologna and whatever is around.

I looked at both Imola and Monza, but as with most GPs in Europe, accommodation seems in short supply unless you camp or are rich.

Interesting race in parts yesterday.
A 10 second penalty for Crashtappen after he threw his toys out of the pram seems a bit lenient to me but hey it cost him a few places in the race.
He should be blaming his team for their appalling tyre strategy.

And for telling him to concede a place, without any such instruction from Race Control.

I can appreciate a competitive nature, but red misting in a race is inexcusable. The fact that these cars are safe as they can be doesn’t mean drivers should crash willy-nilly because they got their feelings or pride hurt. Suck it up and punch a wall ffs…

He got some points on his license, one more stunt like that and he’ll miss a race.

3 points as well, he’s now on 11 so he really has to watch himself for the next 2 races.

I’m worried about Lewis, he seems utterly broken in interviews.

Barcelona circuit is always interesting with all the parts up and down. Quali on Saturday was interesting. Piastri controlled the whole thing.

I was cooking while watching the race. I could not believe what Verstappen did.

It was not a “heat of the moment” thing. There were 5 or so laps from “WTF hard tires” after Antonelli car broke down, to being overtaken by Leclerc at race restart. Then, Russel loses control a bit and bumps into Verstappen. For some reason the team told Verstappen to give up the position to Russel 3 laps later and…bump back into Russel. 10 long minutes.

Well, a reminder that F1 is not time trial, but wheel-to-wheel racing.

Like many before him, and I’m sure many more to come, he’s lost his edge. I can’t see him returning to his former glory, TBH. Still, being paid multi-millions to drive a car around a track and bask in all that adulation isn’t such a bad way to go…

One of 2 things has happened to Lewis, either;

Abu Dhabi 2021, followed by the Mercedes 2022 car being an utter shit box completely broke him.

Or

The current ground effect cars do not suit him and he doesn’t trust them.

If the second, then he might be back on form next season - if he continues.

But he’s so utterly down on himself after being so happy to start with Ferrari, it’s heartbreaking.

Great race today!

It certainly was.

Another great race today, a bit harsh on Piastri in my opinion but overall a good race.
Happy for Hulkenberg who finally got his first podium.

Wild race! Happy for Lando and Nico, bit gutted Lewis’s podium streak just missed out on continuing.

What’s he done now?

Good riddance, now get rid of Helmut too!

I assume he’s been sacked for the team’s poor performance (and possibly losing Max?).

That’s what the BBC seem to think is behind it as well.
