Google Translate ladies and gentleman it’s 2024!!! Xxxxxx
Dammit, I wasted all that time thumbing through the dictionary!
DeepL is much better than Gaagle. And it doesn’t use your data against you.
It does, it’s polite to offer a translation or at least a overview of anything which is posted in a language other than English.
I’d rather not waste my time translating something which may be of no interest or totally irrelevant to me.
The very least you can do is provide a brief overview of what you post so we know whether it’s worth going to to effort of translating it or not.
Sure, but you could also be nice to add that yourself, seeing that the language here is mainly english.
I prefer deepl.
Does anyone have experience with taking Grundkenntnistest in the City of Zurich?
- How much time does the candidate have to answer the 50 questions?
- Is the test on a table or a computer?
- Is the final result shown after answering the last question?
- Does the candidate receive a certificate with the result after completing the test?
I’ve done the Grundkenntnistest in the City of Zurich in June;
- How much time does the candidate have to answer the 50 questions?
I think you get up to 45 minutes; in practice, most people finish in < 10 minutes. To pass, you need to have 30 / 50 correct answers.
- Is the test on a table or a computer?
It is on a tablet.
- Is the final result shown after answering the last question?
I don’t remember, but the interviewer told me the results right after I submitted.
- Does the candidate receive a certificate with the result after completing the test?
No, I haven’t received any certificate.
@swisstobe Thank you for your response.
Did you have an interview together with Grundkenntnistest?
Or by saying “interviewer” you mean the person who was there while you took the test, and you took the test together with more people, and there was no oral exam/discussion?
According to the invitation the test is supposed to be written (in the tablet as you confirmed). There is no interview mentioned in this letter on the same date, and I suppose if an interview takes place it should be mentioned such that I know how long it takes and be absent from work for longer as it takes place during working hours.
My experience was different (Canton of Zurich but not city of Zurich).
The test was on a laptop and once I finished with the questions, they secretary clicked on a button and I immediately got the result on the screen. Afterwards, I was asked to leave the room, as my interview was originally scheduled after the end of the test, but I finished the test within 10 minutes or so.
In an hour, the Gemeinde representative came, along with the secretary. They gave me my certificate, where is said that I successfully passed the test and then the interview started, about 45 minutes…
Did you have an interview together with Grundkenntnistest?
Yes they were both on the same day; The interviewer first gave me the tablet to do the multiple choice Grundkenntnistest, and then interviewed me for 15-20 minutes afterwards (questions related to integrations / friends / activities / etc,… while they were reading the application form that I filled for “Teilnahme am sozialen und kulturellen Leben der Gesellschaft”).
According to the invitation the test is supposed to be written (in the tablet as you confirmed).
The invitation letter that I received was a bit confusing (see below), so I also wasn’t sure if there will be an interview as well.
It mentioned that there will be an interview […] (We are pleased to inform you that you meet the language requirements for naturalization. We would be happy to invite you to a personal interview to discuss your naturalization application and to check your basic knowledge of Switzerland.)
but it also said that during the interview I will have to do the exam without mentioning anything about the integration related questions […] […] (During the interview, you will take a written test in which you will answer questions about your knowledge of Switzerland, the canton and the Zurich municipalities. The enclosed information brochure will help you prepare for the basic knowledge test.)
How long ahead of time did you get the invite to your Grundkenntnistest?
Just 2.5 weeks in my case, it was pretty fast. And then after the test/interview, my case went back to the Canton in 3 weeks.
4 weeks in my case.
The exam for Grundkenntnistest was scheduled 6 weeks after the day the invitation was sent to me. [City of Zurich]
@Silvano When did you first submit the application? Thanks
I submitted the online application almost a year ago with the new law.
Update my side:
After receiving the bourgeoisie (communal citizenship) of my commune, the etat civil of canton Vaud got in touch and said i had to update them before continuing the cantonal part of the process… We sent in documents, early July, to update them, first they said they hadn’t received them (even though it was recorded mail), so we sent again and now that they’ve received them they are saying that they have a back log and it could take some months before anything is updated in their system…
Super weird as they literally only have to punch in some letters into a computer to update. Anyone familiar with this process in Vaud? Dying for this to be over as its 14 months since i’ve applied now…
I do not know about the etat civil part, but from previous messages it seems it takes around 19-20 months in vd from start to end, so at 14 months you still have a while to go.
Indeed…
it was just that from looking at the other timelines from commune acceptance to the cantonal acceptance in previous posts on this thread for Vaud: it seemed only a month or two, where as in my case cantonal acceptance might not be for a few more months because of the etat civil situation…. Sigh, I just need to surrender myself to the process…
