The first snow warning was therefore issued today for Thursday and Friday. From 10 a.m. on Thursday to 10 a.m. on Saturday, 25 to 45 cm of fresh snow is expected on the northern slopes of the Alps and in eastern Graubünden above 1,600 meters, and 5 to 25 cm above 1,200 meters.
Lots of snow here down to 1500, more coming in the next days to below 1000. We don’t yet need the floor heater, but downstairs we may fire up the kachelofen!
I lasted one day, keeping the heating in my flat off. ![]()
We’re having our old oil heating system swapped for an exchanger… right now… so we have no heating … I would never have guessed we’d need it in early September! The temperature has dropped by 22C in 9 days… crazy. (There’s a fireplace in the living room…that’s probably going to get used this weekend)
In our apartment house, the heating is turned on on 1st October regardless of the weather.
Yeh, was colder than that here last night. I have a car-type thermometer to measure inside and outside temps, which beeps when it drops below 4degC, which was about 8pm yesterday. Currently just 5DegC outside.
Glad I put the heating on earlier in the day. Must remember to order some new pellets…
Same thing last year: Heating was on from September.
And I was just thinking this morning: It was still on in June/July!! Not constantly, always according to outside temperatures but it seems they didnt completely turn it off for 10 months or maybe all year!
Definitely unusual - or the new normal?
The installation of your new heater better goes smoothly, huh?
13C now and a thunderstorm over Bülach, north of Zurich.
Weird weather
We went out to do the weekly food shop this morning in bright sunshine, came back an hour and a half later with it starting to rain, then later on it was bright sunshine again.
Had the inside temperatures dropped so much in the last week that you needed the heating on?
Yes, Wednesday was certainly cold enough. We’re off to warmer climes for a couple of weeks, but definitely feeling like winter at home. There was even snow on the rooftops this morning!
Yesterday it rained all day long with a high of 9. First kachelofen fire of the season. The lovely Ursula came to the door with a fistful of huge but delicate Naples basil, the sole survivors. Her parting comment was, “Merry Christmas!”
Today, the first fondue of the season, the first Raclette already happened.
Time to build an ark.
Rain forecast Zürich Canton Thursday 60mm
Edit: On average Zürich gets 90 mm in September.
Yeah, thanks guys. It’s all coming here once you’ve had your fill.
a pair of wellies or if you like a chest wader should do at 60mm.
I like to live in the moment: Wonderful blue sky and lovely sunshine here. A tad cold for my liking.
I know someone who has raclette once a week at least, every week, even on the hottest summer days.
That’s dedication for you.
There’s a too much rainfall alert for tomorrow (40-70mm in 24h), from Aargau to Geneva. The orange areas got the forecast to have lots of rain starting at midnight today. Also strong winds north of the Jura.

Yep, and everybody seems to be panicking. A friend sent me an sms-warning about it. Usually the more panick the less harm.
Still, I hope all goes well for those near a river or in the mountains.
It started raining and it looks like for the next 24 hours, I still have to take the dogs for their last walk of the day, I suspect it will be short.
