Yep, it is weird: Going to bed around 1.30h the moon brightened the night, the sky was clear and the stars were visible.
8am this morning: The sky is covered in solid grey. The clouds are high up but not looking as if willing to budge anytime soon.
The sun is out, the sky is blue!
Figured after all that complaining I had to report that ![]()
What astonished me again and again is WHAT difference grey/sunshine makes to the overall well being no matter how busy (=distracted) one may be.
Don’t get too cocky quite yet…there’s a cold bomb coming our way next week with some really punishing temps. The $64MM question is whether it will encounter an Atlantic storm. If it does, expect some snow, even at low elevations.
I’m not cocky, I’m happy! I’ve been out there and it is magic.
Give me a few sunbeams and I’m my old cheery self.
I prefer snow to dismal grey-in-grey which I’m sure not even nature would be able to explain what this is good for. So bring it on! (the snow)
Had nice sunshine yesterday after almost a couple of weeks of fog. Sunny first thing this morning when we went out, came back to foggy a bit at lunchtime and now it’s mostly sunny, but a bit of mist hanging around.
Clear sky last night and moon shining brilliantly through the bathroom window all night.
Medea, do you live next door from me? ![]()
I finally have these “happy for no friggin’ reason” feelings again all day now.
Fribourg canton.
Not looking good. ![]()
8 to 12 inches of snow possible. Haven’t had that much fall in years. And windy with it! Yikes!
Ohhh, 2 cm of snow for Aargau flatlands.
The storm that hits CH on Tuesday is held off by föhn until evening, when it arrives here, and we are promised 4 inches of snow and driving sleet. Yesterday was the last day of shorts and T shirts. The roses are still blooming…time to put up the Christmas tree! ![]()
We’ve got to go out Tuesday afternoon to get our Covid booster jabs. Not looking forward to it if the forecast is correct. At least winter tyres are on, that was done last week.
Forecast for Sunday and early next week is 10 degrees. I am sure y’all will survive 2 days of sleet. It is late November after all.
Heavy rain and wind warning for Tuesday (tomorrow). Fortunately temps still above zero, a minimum of 2°.
Yup…the snow cannons will make some to add to this week’s little base, but next week it will mostly melt. The slopes open in 2 weeks, and they’ll be skiing on rocks.
well, there is a storm coming here now.
ahhh, sod it. First victim
edit: 3 am and this is still going on strongly. Checked SRF weather page and there’s a storm warning level orange for my area, 60-90 km/h up to 100km/h.
So it was expected. Doesn’t make it less unnerving. I absolutely hate storms.
edit: And while it was still raining like in Noah’s times an hour ago, daylight now reveals the world in powder sugar. Pretty, I admit but so little that it won’t last long.
Time to get some breakfast and some sleep. Hope people will be able to handle the first snow, I don’t want police sirenes to bother my dreams.
Significant snow forecast for the the top half of Switzerland starting Thursday afternoon and carrying on through to Friday.
Time to get your sledges out!
Time to fight about winter tires ![]()
What MeteoSuisse shows is very interesting. The higher snow precipitation will be in the lower altitude regions (Swiss Plateau + Jura + Valais valleys).
Warning level is 3 in a scale of 5. Not the end of the world, but driving will probably be a traffic nightmare tomorrow afternoon.
Unwetter is not snow. It’s simply bad weather. We had storm warning orange (4 on your chart) here last nicht and yep, they were correct and it went on until the morning. Then a little powder-sugar followed by wonderful sunshine for a few hours. Now it’s grey again but not much wind at the moment.
Guess the weather will just be very moody for a while.
In this case it is snow. The Ochre coloured areas correspond to the ochre colour in the legend.
The ochre colour in the legend is for snow. Click on this and it states “Snow level 3 - significant hazard”.
I guess it doesn’t matter how simple Swiss Meteo make it with pretty colours and snowflake symbols, for some it’s still too much.
Started the morning (after a night of wind and rain) with driving sleet, turning to massive whiteout with blobs of snow blowing horizontally…a real blizzard. It went on for a couple of hours, temp dropped to 0. Then the sun came out, and it looks like the rest of the day will be beautiful!
