Swiss Weather!

Ha, check the top left of the pic. There’s Unwetter/storm selected. Below, the the little symbol with 3 snowflakes is “snow” is also selected. So, we’re looking at snow hazard

Considering it’s the first snow of the season, people will get caught offguard.

Well, we had our first snow of the season this morning. Or rather we were gently prepped for it :slightly_smiling_face:

Inevitably our first snowfall happens on a Sunday afternoon. While they know it’s going to happen, well, it’s Sunday, they will get around to it Monday morning. Well Monday morning comes around and they can’t get to the depots to get their snow equipment. Usually things will be back to nearly normal by Wednesday afternoon when temperatures are back into the pluses.

Not in our little hamlet. If the snow comes in the middle of the night I will only know (as it’s dark and I will not take notice) because the snowplough will drive by with yellow warning lights.
Where do you live, I wonder?

In the smallest commune in Vaud.

I just checked, we are now the 34th smallest now.

We live in a tiny commune in Neuchâtel but they still manage to clear snow before people need to go to work in the mornings.

When we moved here 14 years ago there were signs saying ‘service hivernal réduit’, if what we get is the reduced version I can’t imagine what it must have been like before.

Yah, we’ve got one of those. But it really means No Winter Service. .

Had snow overnight. More forecast later today.

Winter wonderland this morning, with blazing sun and bare tree limbs traced in icy snow. The snow cannons are running.

Nothing here (at 420 meters) but nice and sunny. Lovely to see bright light outside!

Same here. Woke up to sunshine, yeahi! Your post made me look up the height here: 471 meters.

The storm grabbed all the leaves and brought the neighbours unpleasantly close. So some plissées need a little shifting into winter position.

456 m here. Light rain overnight. Temps hit zero but not lower. Can see snow down around 600m on the Jura.

435m here and woke up to a gorgeous sunrise this morning.
No snow or even frost here yet but it did only drop to zero overnight. Can see snow all around down to pretty low altitudes but it hasn’t quite made it this far yet.

I won’t mind if it snows, I don’t need to go out any more today and we already have the winter tyres on.

I have to go out there and rescue my lavender, the storm victim, giving it a new pot before the snow comes. Had that thing been made of plastic but nooo, we want terracotta, don’t we.
Grey clouds are back and getting darker in the west.

Today is not a good day for driving.

Disruptions started last night on the climb from Vevey to Chatel-St-Denis in Vaud. The deep snow may be linked to the quick elevation change fro the lake to the mountains. This is a nice section to drive at the legal speed limit

If someone has to drive today, bring some blankets or a sleeping bag, chocolates, water. Being stuck on the road for a few hours should not be a surprise today.

Regular updates via 20min:

Started snowing here, but not laying on the roads yet.

WHAT? St. Gallen this morning, that’s only 40km from me

I feel like I’m on a different planet. Nothing happening here, not even a slight wind. A friend warned me about an hour ago and I was like “yeah, riiight”. But I did go out and settle my lavender back in (a heart for plants), noticed it was not even as cold as I had expected.

It has started! 1st snow of the year :snowflake:

I feel deprived. The usual grey-in-grey is back here.

Wasn’t that back in January?
