Thanks, BelgianMum!
It’s just arrived here.
I’m on the Limmattal (Zurich outskirts) and there are some blue holes in the cloud cover. The storm is expected at 18h00.
Hail or just wind and thunders?
Torrential rain and thunder, no hail.
Chucking it down here with a few grumbles, but that’s it.
Dark and ominous in Zurich right now…
It’s been a while that without seeing tropical rainfall. Big drops going sideways lasted 5 mins. Now light rain falling vertically.
Lots of rain and very windy now here (Zurich area)
Turned out to be a short sharp downpour for us. All quiet now.
Stormy wind here - which pointed out how many lush, green trees we have here, lovely - with rain that made a noise but I couldn’t really make out if it was hail from 18.30 until 18.37h
So no, nothing here really.
In the end, only small tree branches broken by he wind.
The surprise for me while driving back home yesterday was a construction zone near the Lions Hockey arena in Alstetten. It’s a construction zone, so plenty of temporary road markers and traffic signs. The issue is that the winds toppled several of them. Crashing with one of them can certainly ruin the evening mood…
What we did get was quite heavy while it lasted. Never seen the water flowing out of the balcony drainage hole so fast.
Thanks for this. To me this will be more than just relevant in winter when I go to Zermatt as planned. I booked my travel well in advance, so as you can imagine, at this time I can’t predict any avalanche or if the train is coming!
There is usually lots of information available for weather, avalanches and travel disruption, and most of it can be found in English.
Thanks for sending your nasty weather over here yesterday.
Some bits got hammered, but here in Apple village the skies went dark, we got three flashes of lightning, five grumbles and a handful of rain.
If you want to send weather then send something decent.
Although a Ryan Air 737 got into turbulence sending passengers to the ceiling and had to land in Memmingen.
And now we have the smoke from fires in Canada whitening up the skies.
We are going to BC and Alberta in a month. If the sky looks like this in Switzerland, what is it like in Canada???
you won’t see the sky.
Fires are primarily in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, winds are predominantly west to east. Southern Okanagan Valley has no smoke at the moment.
And even people I know in Saskatchewan say they’re safe and far away from the fires.
Definitely other dimensions in Canada
