Swiss Weather!

Yes, it’s crazy to think that Switzerland is just a size of one Natural Park in Canada, and they have plenty of them.

I was about to say naaa, but yesterday the sky hd that hazyness form smoke. Last night the Moon had a funny color…yep, forest fire smoke.

Seems to be a bit better today but there’s a report on it here (from yesterday):

Europe Air Quality Alert: Canadian Wildfire Smoke

Day before yesterday, OH said we had dusty skies. I said to him, “Hmmm…it looks more like California on a fire day.” I wish I hadn’t been right.

Its advised to wear a IQAir FFP2 Face Mask

Apparently the Canadian dust is becoming irrelevant today and tomorrow as air from the Sahara is pushing north blocking the western winds that bring it.

The result is a heatwave beginning today through Sunday, when the western winds are expected to prevail again. On its own the temperatures might go up to 35°, but the wet soils will bring lots of cooling evaporation plus the Sahara dust blocks part of the sunshine. Both factors reduce the temperature by 1-2 degrees each, so the top is expected to be around 32°.

Humidity will be high, especially Saturday causing uncomfortable conditions. It’s the time of year again where you should open the windows during the night.

We’ve been preparing for this…washing down the balcony and terrace, watering all the potted plants, root watering the veggies. It will be hot and humid. The roses love it, however. Thank goodness for the mountains, as our overnight temps are 15-16. No wonder we have guests from the lower altitudes.

Don’t know what it’s like where the rest of you are, but it’s blowing a gale here atm. Wind’s picked up a lot in the last few minutes from being completely calm with no wind at all. Just waiting for the forecasted rain to start.

Pretty violent storm here, I don’t know where half our garden furniture is currently but it’s not where it’s supposed to be

Torrential rain and gale force winds for a while but it’s quietened down a bit now.

Sun back out here, blue sky and warm. The day started grey, then it rained just enough for me to throw grass-seeds around and them getting enough water to start their job.

We had scaffolding up re roof work and it ruined the grass badly. Seemed it won’t recover it on it’s own. This stuff I bought seems to do the trick quiet fast so I have my hopes up for perfection now. (Perfection to me is a thick, green meadow, not an “English lawn”).

The lightning map shows a lot of strikes around Basel and almost down to Bern, slowly drifitng Eastward

Giant mess from SG scheduled to get here around 6…we’ve had t’storms every afternoon. Lots of rain and wind are expected.

Strong winds, short sharp downpour of rain and now it’s all quiet again. And people think British weather is crazy.

I remember some more crazy Scottish weather! Inches of hail within 15 minutes after an 80 degree day.

The Tour de Suisse is currently on it’s first stage in central Switzerland.

It’s basically two laps. I watched the first lap in hot sunshine.

It’s not so nice now for the riders with a massive thunderstorm overhead:

My family managed to return from Badi literally in the last seconds. Otherwise they would have been riding like these poor guys.

Rain? What rain? Winds? Nah. Totally peaceful and sunshine now.

Consider yourselves very lucky, Neuchâtel was not so lucky.

Why does this canton suffers from strong wind too often? Is it related to the geographical location? Relief?
