Swiss Weather!

Simplon Pass is now opened again.

“It is indeed an avalanche that is at the origin of the closure since Thursday of the Great St. Bernard axis between Switzerland and Italy. The flow damaged the Toules gallery. On the other hand, the Simplon Pass is open again.”

Zermatt is also still isolated. Pity anyone who booked their Easter Weekend to ski there.

I have been stuck in my village for 2 days, no power, no mobile signal, no wifi, no ability to buy food. Was not fun. Power came back late evening!

It seems the snow avalanche that forced the closure of Grand St. Bernard tunnel was big one. Tunnel closed without a clear reopening date:

Yes, the avalanche brought boulders and trees with it and damaged the first 300m of the tunnel. Galleries actually. But Mt. Blanc tunnel is operating with only limited closures for maintainance. If you are going that way, best to check out the status in advance.

Thanks, I should have been more precise. It’s one of these sections with a roof that protects the road from minor avalanches but not a tunnel excavated on the mountain. It’s now clear that big avalanches can still do a lot of damage.

We were curious to visit the Aosta valley before summer, maybe just go to a new place in Alsace. Less trouble

It’s not that far from Martigny to the Mt. Blanc tunnel, about 50km and takes about an hour. See the Trient Vally with it’s pink church and the Gorges du Trient. Also Finhaut is quite pleasant. I wouldn’t go to Geneva and back …

April weather, four days late.
What a weird day today from darkish to sun through black clouds to bright sunshine straight to loud rumbling followed by heaviest rain one can think of accompagned by strong wind… and back, I guess.
Of course it is pissing at my freshly cleaned windows, I guess it’s something personal. I will still not clean them again before next year

I am sure I could wash my car then loan it out to some corner of the globe suffering drought and they would have a good few hours of a downpour on account of my squeaky clean car being parked in one of their towns. Every. Damn. Time.

LOL, I don’t bother washing my car.
But if I wern’t too lazy right now, getting it out of the garage right now would be a good idea actually. Clean enough for me after an hour of this.

Watch out for hailstones

We’ve had a thunderstorm every evening for the past 3 days. Massive wind, rain, then sun and rainbows (a double one last night that ended in the neighbour’s field! Another one due today…

Had some rain, not too heavy here. Still raining gently atm.

For last few hours we have had tempestuous rain interspersed with 20 minutes,or so, of light drizzle.

Yes! We need the water but please, not all of it in one evening!

Damn! Fast moving storm just went through and on its way lightning struck a tree in the farmer’s field opposite us. Really BIG bang so I guess that’s when it hit. Sun’s come out now.

I assume this may affect Swiss Jura as well so take care folks.

That was quite the storm we had at around 5am so I’m guessing we caught some of the French stuff.
It even woke our son up and that takes some doing.

Thunderstorm warning for the whole Swiss plateau this afternoon.

Zurich airport has cancelled a few flights between 16h00 and 20h00 because they expect problems.

I drove to work today, I guess I’ll wait until the storm is over in the office :frowning:

I made the right decision to leave my bike at home today, in that case. Yay, me…
