If you’ve found the wind strong these past few days, brace yourself, as it’s about to get worse.
The first major autumn storm, named Benjamin, is expected to sweep across the country tomorrow, bringing violent gusts and heavy rain.
The Jura will be among the hardest-hit regions, with winds reaching up to 120 to 150 kilometres an hour on exposed ridges.
MeteoSwiss warns that thunderstorms could also develop locally.
The storm, fuelled by a deep low-pressure system near the British Isles, will last until Friday before easing over the weekend, when temperatures are set to drop sharply.
Well, managed to dodge most of the rain on our trip back to Switzerland. Had a few rain showers in France along the way, but no rain by the time we got into Switzerland so was able to unload the few necessary bit of stuff without getting wet.
Talking of rain when we were travelling through France yesterday I noticed how some clouds were dark on the bottom, but white on top and that made me wonder why clouds go dark when the weather’s bad. Husband suggested it was because more moisture in the cloud was reflecting sunlight back so the cloud wasn’t getting illuminated. Is that what’s happening or is something else the cause of clouds changing colour?
The wind suddenly hit like a freight train about half an hour ago. There is a blizzard of leaves flying through the air–my neighbour’s 30-foot tree lost all its huge leaves in a few minutes…right into my cutting garden that I’ve been keeping so clean. Grrrrrr.
I was watching it and the tree in front of the window which was full of leaves this morning suddenly has none at all and the lake is incredibly choppy.
The wind has come in two waves here so far. The first round sent our balcony furniture flying and knocked over one neighbor’s trampoline. The second round of gusts lifted the other neighbor’s trampoline over the hedge and into the common area!
It was really windy with very little daylight in Basel this morning. Most of the leaves came down in our courtyard and across the way on the pathway to the local park.
