Storm has moved on North towards Lausanne. Hope Morges has got their river defenses as they don’t need a repeat.
Nice hotel this, long creepy dark corridor to the rooms where you can hear the wind howling.
Quite a bit more expensive than my usual haunt. But the room is lovely, no body shaped stains on the carpet, there is not a single pubic hair in sight on the tiles in the loo and the shower head doesn’t give the impression it has been used by a trucker to masturbate.
Bed is comfy too.
Don’t look under the bed
Zermatt flooded again. Worse than last week.
From Zermatt.ch:
Due to risk of flooding Zermatt is currently inaccessible.
Got off lightly here then. Husband said he did hear some rain during the night, but that’s all.
Ah well, time to haul…
Just spent a few minutes reading up on the history and yes this Piz Buin is the name giver for the Sun cream
And like last week people talk about Zermatt when the worst hit areas are elsewhere. Maggia valley this weekend.
That’s all we had too. It was quite a downpour by all accounts but it was just rain.
Everyone’s heard of Zermatt so it makes the news, the poor sods in other places are less newsworthy.
The tourist news.
I’ve just returned from a week-long business trip and my car (parked outside) looks its been through the Paris-Dakar rally.

Paris-Dakar rally.
[/quote]There’s always one car that gets left out of the garages…this time it was the 508SW, which now looks like it was parked at Dubai airport.
Famous last words…
summer storm are violent in general. And, really hard to predict because the rain may be concentrated in 2-4 sq km.
The football fan zones are death traps with structures that can collapse with wind, electrical cables on the floor and water, and hundreds of people together in the same place.
Famous last words from whom?
None of that happened…
Also incredibly unpredictable - especially as to whether they will occur even if conditions are perfect.
Sometimes you get a fierce storm with lightening, thunder and hail and other times the clouds over-develop and shut down any chance of a storm and you just get the rain.
Even the UK tabloid press mentions places other than Zermatt - this is the “swim-through” McDonalds in Sierre, Valais:
Maggiatal was hit bad. 3 dead and a bridge down.
6 or 7 deaths in the last 2 weeks due to floods and landslides, air traffic disruptions, San Bernardino Pass highway washed away, Simplon Pass blocked by rocks, several trains stations flooded too…
Thunderstorm predictions are regional, it is not possible to forecast the precise location of the impacted areas. So, if all the damage is a few km away, it doesn’t mean the the forecast was wrong, or nothing happened. It’s just that the roulette boule ended in a different pocket, that’s all.
It just shows you–we were forecast to get buckets of rain and thunderstorms today; nothing happened. The predicted hard west wind from CH never got here, thwarted by föhn from Italy. The birds are singing, while a few km away there could be dire straits.
