Twice I tried 2 non-Tesla chargers on the French Autoroutes, simply because they were there where we stopped.
The first very impressive array of 300kWH chargers did accept credit cards and wanted registration. So I didn’t even try it. I found another that claimed 300kW charging, after a few minuted it reached about 120kWH. After a few minutes I unplugged. It cost €0.59/kWH. I spent €3.10 - I added it to my total cost.
Likewise meeting friends in a pub in the UK, it has a non-tethered charger in the car park. I gave up as it wanted me to register before it would do anything…
Thats cool, my standard range RWD has 420 km indicated range on a full charge so I might need an extra stop to Blighty. Interestingly Tesla have just introduced a range topping 600km (WLTP) Model Y with RWD but a bigger battery (than my 60 KW). Had this been available at the time I might have gotten it as I don’t need the speed or AWD of the LR, but extra range would be nice to have.
Charging at Tunnel UK side. 80% limit here. Tesla busy. One Mustang there. The non-Tesla chargers were not totally operative and one Dutchman in a VW iD4 who didn’t get the memo on Tesla sharing was quite miffed that he couldn’t charge.
2024.14.8 arrived today with some very nice and welcome updates. The live camera feed is particularly cool, but I thought this was restricted in Switzerland due to privacy laws.
So far my favourite improvement (thoroughly tested with the crap weather) is the wipe controls. Press the left-hand wiper stalk button once > mini menu appears letting you set the wiper speed with the scroll wheel. No more having to look at the screen and prod an icon.
Wow, variable sensitivity automatic (I assume) intermittent wipers, how… novel. I must admit when I first had that feature on my 2008 Volkswagen, and then on my wife’s 2010 Audi I thought it was great. No menus needed either, just a physical adjustment on the wiper column itself.
Not even that mate, the Tesla automatic wipers have a mind of their own so this is a quick manual speed adjustment until auto wipers are fixed. Most cars have wiper controls on the stalk, but on Tesla its just a button for quick wipe or long press for wiper fluid. The speed/Auto has to be selected on screen.
Yes, that is the Juniper update which should be similar to the refreshed Model 3 (Highland). So ventilated seats, rear passenger screen and the controversial (indicator, wiper and gear) stalk delete.
Tesla already announced earlier this year that there would be no Model Y 2024 refresh since sales of the current Model Y were flagging… so nothing new here.
There’s an upcoming factory shutdown in Grünheide later this month - it’s unclear what exactly happens. Of course, there’s always the rumor about the Y refresh coming…
Grünheide Model Ys at last switched to Hardware 4 (new cameras mostly) recently.
There’s a 6k rebate in Germany currently for cars delivered until the end of this month - not 100% sure if it’s for Ys only or also 3s.
The base white Y with 6k rebate in CHF would be one hell of a sweet deal.
Even if the design is a bit “dated” - people complain about the design of the 200k CHF EQS, too…
I switched to Vision Only on my Model 3 for a test (possible after a recent firmware update). It does have some advantages, but it also requires getting used to it, admittedly.
It was annoying to order my Berlin Model Y in Jan 2024 knowing that HW 4 had been released for US and Chinese built cars 6 months earlier. However the reduced 40,990 sticker price and 0% leasing was too good a deal to pass up.
