Tesla EV discussion

Three updates in 2 weeks, they’re spoiling us.

The latest update 2024.20.1 brings with it curved headlight which I tested last night. Seems to work well :+1:

I realized today that one of the last updates must have really fixed the wipers.

They worked “just right”.

At least for the current weather. And daylight.

On my model Y I have a creaking sound when turning at low speed, so I checked it in for a look, via the app.

The app said I have to accept an estimated cost of Chf 170. This is not charged if there is a problem which should be fixed under the warranty.

Since I had the car for 2 years now without servicing it, I also booked it in for a general service at the same time… estimated cost there is CHF 580, includes vehicle check, brake oil change, wiper change, filter change etc. Seems steep and I kinda thought that the first years services would be included in the purchase price … seemingly not.

I paid 320 for the brake service and changing the cabin air filter.

The mechanical parts of a Tesla are easy to service. Any garage can do that.

I went to the place that had serviced my Lupo for the better part of 15 years.

The maintenance manual is public, I sent them the links and they said it doesn’t look much different than the Volkswagen BEVs they service.

Compared to the “compulsory” inspection on my partner’s VW iD3 at 2 years, with just 5,992 kms clocked up, Tesla’s seems in the ballpark.

VW charged CHF469.90…

# DATA SUGGESTS ELON MUSK HAS DEEPLY ALIENATED TESLA’S CORE MARKET

California accounts for 10 percent of Tesla’s global deliveries, according to Reuters where registration of Tesla vehicles dropped 24 percent between April and June — the third straight quarter that sales have fallen in the state. California Tesla sales are down by over 17 percent compared to last year.

As one poll released in April showed, the proportion of Democrats that bought Tesla vehicles dropped by a staggering 60 percent during October and November last year.

Musk’s move to the right and constant attacks on California are likely bad for his business. It is likely mostly Dems who do not want Musk to send their money to Trump. Musk’s new plan to move the HQ to Texas will not help.
Mixing politics and business is never a good idea.

Maybe, maybe not.

Too many other factors influencing a buying decision.

Personally, I don’t really care much about the politics of a company beyond the product.

If you were religious, would you care whether the CEO of a company you buy products from is of the same belief?

It’s the Läderach discussion again.

However, Tesla sales are significantly declining in their major market.

According to the latest analysis of new vehicle registrations published by the California New Car Dealers Association (CNCDA), Toyota BEV registrations have soared 108.1% so far this year, while Hyundai and Ford BEV registrations rose 65.7% and 26.4%, respectively.

Nevertheless, Californians buy more Teslas than other makes but sales may have peaked.

It’s really funny from a marketing standpoint. Move the headquarters from the environment-loving, tofu-eating California to the oil producing Texas. Pure genius move, taxes notwithstanding.

See it from this point: why preach to the converted?

Because the converted buy more than once. If i remember well, someone around here is on the 2nd Tesla.

Back to my car service, I received a text delaying it from 22.7 to 13.8… they say they are waiting for spare parts.

Its a nice touch how the headlights switch to RHD as soon as you arrive in the UK, however I did have to manually change to mp/h in the menu.

Some while back a Delaware court cancelled Elon’s $56b performance related bonus.
Elon organised a new shareholder vote that confirmed the bonus and Tesla’s lawyers were back in court trying to reinstate the payment. The judge seemed rather sceptical and kept asking the lawyers for a legal precedent to support the reversal of the original decision which they failed to provide.

Elon damages his major business, press release from large German company

ROSSMANN will not purchase any more Tesla vehicles for its fleet with immediate effect. This decision is based on the incompatibility between the statements of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the values that Tesla represents with its products

Edit: The original German press release is more informative.

I had never even heard of Rossmann. I can’t see this having any material effect on the producer of the worlds best selling car.

?
The world’s best-selling car this year is the Ford F-series.
Tesla is not in the top ten this year.

Tesla lost ground in both the United States and Europe, where sales fell by 8 percent and 13 percent respectively. Tesla’s market share in the European BEV market fell from 19.8 percent to 17.2 percent this year. In the US Tesla’s share dropped from 59.8 percent in 2023 to 51.2 percent in 2024. T

Actually, surprisingly for me too, indeed the Model Y is the best selling car in the world.

Rossmann apparently bought 38 Tesla (out of 800-ish total vehicles).

So Tesla had the opportunity to have sold twenty times as many if not for Musk.
