Tesla EV discussion

Fantastic machine, still waiting for it here in Europe.

Tesla sales are 11.5% down versus last year, the updated model Y starts deliveries tomorrow so the numbers should start picking up.

On Tuesday, data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association showed sales of new Tesla cars almost halved in Europe last month. The figures left analysts scrambling to assess how big a factor customers turning their backs on the brand because of Musk’s foray into far-right politics may be.

The Texas-based carmaker sold 9,945 vehicles in Europe in January, down 45% from last year’s 18,161, the association said.

Let’s see how much of this sales slump is related to people waiting for the new Model Y. Personally I’m not that optimistic for what is a decent brand headed by an absolute clown.

The TFF is seeing an increase in people trying to sell their cars.

Most dealers don’t even call them back apparently.

They’ll have to stomach a big loss if they want to part with the car.

There’s a slight increase in the number of Model Ys available on comparis - but not much given you can order the facelift.

We already know what will happen. First Mr. Musk will tell car buyers to not buy cars and “go f**k yourselves”. Next, Tesla will sue the EU for an alleged boycott.

Tesla shares fell another 8% today to $302 (37% down from the December 2024 peak of $480), presumably due to the collapse in European sales and investors concerns he is spending too little time managing Tesla.

Edit: : This is circulating widely
Reports suggest that there are nearly 50,000 Teslas sitting in parking lots across the US alone — so many, they can be seen from space.

Could be possible as Tesla has around $4 billion in finished goods inventory but I doubt it.

Can you provide a source for this picture?

Part of the endless FUD spread about Tesla. These aren’t even Teslas - they park themselves far more neatly…

These (or versions of it) have become very common of late.

I don’t remember where in facebook so I did a reverse image search

I meant a reputable source.

Alternatively this could all be an elaborate stock shorting exercise since he’s also known for trying to fiddle the market.

I was a bit busy yesterday and missed the online drama.

The episode where customers are told to do something to themselves already happened. If there’s a short strategy, the actions are consistent with it:

Also in Australia

According to a new suit in Australia’s Federal Court, Tesla Motors Australia has overstated the driving ranges of its EVs, overpromised on self-driving features, and has vehicles suffering from instances of phantom braking.

From what I could check online, the car-inventory has actually gone done.

Which is not surprising, since they stopped the production lines for the switch to the new Model Y.

We will have to see how well the new Y sells. A lot of people are generally upset with Elon and “don’t want to be seen dead in a Tesla”.

But at the same time comparable cars are more expensive once you add all the features - especially in the lower trims.

People will vote with their wallets in the long run.

I’m not even sure what I’d get instead of a Tesla. Most “nicer” cars are double, or even triple the price.

I would buy a BYD Seal, which is the same price as a Model 3 whilst being superior in almost every other way. Right now you can only buy it on the grey market here, but Swiss sales through AMAG are imminent.

Indeed, it’s rarely a good idea to mix idenity politics and business (or sports for that matter) regardless of which side you’re on. Especially if you’re as polarising as Musk.

What would you say are comparable?
