Tesla EV discussion

Perhaps this

Tesla’s share price is down another 4% today, if Elon is shorting his own stock then he has made a fortune, now $290

Meanwhile in Seattle

Fort Lauderdale

San Francisco

and more

Something with as little buttons and a clean dashboard but with a GUI that is as well thought-out.

From the pictures, I like the Lotus Eletre. But it’s like 100k+ used.

I also like that in my Tesla, I can put it into “Joe Mode” and the only sound it makes is from engaging/disenaging TACC/Autopilot.

I don’t need the audio-visual equivalent of a slot machine combined with a Vegas billboard in my car (so no, the MB Hyperscreen is not a selling point and their “Zero-layer” interface is just a way of saying they have no idea how they could structure their UI in a meaningful way).

Since December Tesla has fallen from a $1.5 Trillion company to under $1 Trillion, time for Elon to return to his office.

Do you actually think his presence would improve company value? Past performance is no guarantee of future results. The man has gone off his nut!

Hey, I’ve only been in a model 3 as passenger. I got annoyed by the guy driving using voice commands for several functions. Is there a way to make the car do things without relying too much on voice commands?

I understand the issue with the MB Hyperscreen and other aberrations. I work with 3 displays, last thing I want while driving the car is having to look at just another screen.

No I don’t think Elon would improve company value but I would like to see him away from DC

You could use the screen instead of voice commands.

But that’s a bit of an issue when you’re driving.

Especially when you’re using Autopilot (or FSD in the US), the cabin-camera is enforcing “attention to traffic” very vigorously.

As I said, I actually enjoy the clean dash and the not-overloaded-with-buttons steering wheel.

I almost never use the phone in my car, so I don’t really need a “phone” button on my steering wheel.

Who asked for that:

???

Quite often passengers get annoyed with the driver - for one reason or another.
It’s called “Back seat driving” in the UK.

Voice control! Does this give reality to back seat drivers?

Absolutely! Just try:

Turn right here …Left now.

What he’s great at is the big vision stuff e.g. increase the number of EVs on the road, make them practical in terms of range, cost and have an infrastructure of chargers such that you can drive from coast to coast using only Tesla.

Everything else e.g. Cybertruck, Robotaxis, or overruling his engineers to eliminate key components from the Model 3/Y has been been negative or a distraction. So if he were to step down I think Tesla would be fine.

Elon is/was great at pursuing ultra-long future(s).

EVs, FSD, cheap, reusable rockets, internet via satellite, making humans a multiplenetary species.

No sane person (much less any CEO worth his credentials) would have pursued these goals with such ferocity, with so much of his own money for so long.

I think thats the main difference between him and normal CEOs who are more focused on quarterly results and small incremental changes like the new iPhone 16 in 50 different colours.

BYD sold 322,846 vehicles globally in February, 2025. That’s up 8.9% from the 296,446 units the company sold in January

That includes BYD sold 67,025 NEVs in overseas markets.

Tesla sales estimated at 30,000 in China so 16% down from the same month last year, it is claimed Tesla has orders for 50,000 upgraded model Y

They were preparing the factory for the switch to the new Model Y.

I think it will tick a lot of boxes for Chinese customers.

Tesla China sales last week were 12,400, practically the same as in the same week last year. The new model Y now deliverable has made a big difference.

Before or after tariffs?

Teslas are manufactured in Shanghai so tariff free.

So it will be the Americans who pay tariffs on Teslas?
