Tesla EV discussion

I’m sure Donnie has one and he has probably hired Marjorie Taylor Greene as driver. Those woke pedestrians had better watch out.

I bought this four years ago in Ricardo for a few hundred.
It has a 40km range but I mostly use it for local shopping
When I am feeling cheeky I drive around inside Coop or Migros and collect my shopping off the shelves

Wasn’t it Canada that burned down the whitehouse during the last conflict on US soil?

Although the US has attempted a number of times to take Canada by force of arms it was before Canada became a nation in 1967. Since then the US has respected Canada’s sovereignty. That is except form their disagreement that the Arctic Islands and inland waters are Canadian. Their famous sailing of a nuclear submarine to the north pole was done without permission through Canadian waters.

However, yes, in the war of 1812 the US attempted to take Canadian territory by incursions into Ontario and Quebec. These were easily repulsed by Canada - with the might of the British Empire behind them. The British went on to sack Washington D.C. and burn the Whitehouse.

The Battle of New Orleans, made famous in Song, actually occurred weeks after the end of the war

. Canadians have fought alongside US troops in WWI and II, entering the conflicts much earlier and the Korean war, the Gulf war and the war in Afghanistan.

No surprise

Tesla reported deliveries of 336,681 globally in the January to March quarter. The figure was down from sales of 387,000 in the same period a year ago

Some pushback on Elon spending too much time on DOGE and not running Tesla

Wrong thread. You’re way too gullible and had for a fool.

With regular registration data available in Europe and China, we have pretty good visibility in those markets. Analysts were right, with Tesla slightly up for the quarter in China and down about 30,000 units in Europe, some countries having yet to report.

This means that the disappointing results are coming from the US.

Tesla likely delivered 20,000 fewer units in the US this quarter than it did last year. This would likely be ca. 11% less than Q1 2024, which in turn was ca. 11% less than Q1 2023. Tesla does not publish US sales numbers.

Tesla reported having deployed 10 GWh of energy storage – a new record for a first quarter.

While Tesla’s electric vehicle business entered a downturn in 2024, which is now accelerating in 2025, Tesla’s energy business, which primarily consists of selling Megapacks and Powerwalls, has been consistently growing.

The bulk of this growth can be attributed to Tesla’s production ramp at its Lathrop Megafactory, where it produces the Megapack, and in the launch and production ramp of the Powerwall 3 with LFP battery cells.

Tesla now uses LFP battery cells from China to build these energy storage systems in California and Nevada. The company is believed to almost exclusively use LFP battery cells from China’s CATL in its stationary energy storage products.

According to the latest information, President Trump’s new tariffs announced yesterday are resulting in 54% tariffs on importing Chinese battery cells into the US.

This will significantly increase the prices of Tesla’s Powerwall and Megapack products, which should reduce the market.

Elon really needs to go back to managing his businesses while they are still there

Looks like Twitter is also facing financial problems
The European Union is reportedly preparing to levy a $1 billion fine against Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter), citing violations of the Digital Services Act (DSA) related to illicit content, hate speech, and disinformation.

I think they want him to step down as Tesla CEO, that is the only thing guaranteed to increase the share price and reduce the hate, vandalism etc…

He is tainted by his DOGE shenanigans so even if he stepped away from government he’s still a liability to the brand.

but if he stepped down as Tesla CEO he would still be the biggest owner, no?
Looks to me Tesla is fu**ed for the time being.

edit: so is he, considering he not even IS a politician, what was he thinking?

What reason do people have to pay 100x PE and more if not for Elon? Tesla is barely growing, its margins are just so-so (which is still excellent for a car maker). Cash flow is quite nice but that alone is far from good enough.

So today I ended up behind a Tesla when the barrier was down. I smirked as for the first time ever I recognized a Tesla. So they’re right, there is no bad advertisement?
It was white, shiny and seemed to have no dents anywhere. Can they even have dents or are they made from “plastic” (Kunststoff) like the Talbot Murena back in them days? They were great; didn’t rust when they had a scratch.

The bumpers are plastic. The rest is a mix of aluminum and steel.
(The Cybertruck is cold-rolled stainless steel derived from an alloy also used in SpaceX rockets…but you’re unlikely to encounter one this side of the pond).

Body-work is rather expensive (aluminum…), so cars are written of for seemingly small damages, which is why insurance is getting more expensive every year.

Though apparently, the new Model Y Juniper has some modifications to make some repairs (supposedly) much cheaper.

I’m surprised you haven’t seen/noticed a Tesla before. They are very common - so much so that the friendly “Tesla wave” - lifting fingers off the steering wheel at each other has had to sadly disappear or it would give Tesla drivers arthritis…

Tesla recorded 3,580 insurance registrations in China during the week of March 31 to April 6, down 83% from the prior week.

A three-day public holiday for the Ching Ming Festival from April 4 to 6 also weighed on auto industry activity.

BYD registered 45,100 vehicles from March 31 to April 6, a decline of 25.3% from the 60,400 units recorded in the previous week.

" Tesla recorded 3,580 insurance registrations in China during the week of March 31 to April 6, down 83% from the prior week"

Not sure whether this is becoming a bit ridiculous. It’s cars, not apples. Company results are normally reported publicly once a year, sometimes quarterly.
How environmental are these Teslas, do they decay within a month?

So there could be an increase of about 3000 uninsured vehicles

Enjoy while you can, China is trying to stop weekly auto sales numbers

Forecat for Tesla stock price are all over the place, the highest is $500

UBS today lowered its price target on Tesla (TSLA) to $190 from $225 while reiterating a Sell rating on the shares, today price is $252.

Based on the current level of tariffs, they may cost the automaker $5 billion annually, UBS estimated. Additionally, the duties will have a negative impact on demand for the firm’s vehicles, the bank indicated.
The company’s energy business could be negatively impacted by the high tariffs that the U.S. has imposed on China, UBS believes.

So one should buy F
