Tesla EV discussion

Ha, funny. So Musk will lower his activity-time for Doge and … Tesla sales will rise again “reciprocally”?

It’s more to do with making quick decisions.
At SpaceX Gwynne can and does make decisions without piggybacking to Elon.
AFAIK, there’s no such mechanism at Tesla. So a lot depends on the final say of Elon. When he’s in D.C. that’s going to be difficult.

It’s nothing unusual for an owner-led company and was one of the strengths of Tesla in the past: no stakeholders, no unions, no 2nd-guessing, no study groups, no steering groups - just Elon’s thumb. Yes or no.

We’ll see how that works out these days.

TBH, the people a car company needs are people like car designers, not the boss.

Key people in the development of the model 3 are not there anymore. If the boss comes back, the next Cybertruck will be developed.

I’m thinking more something with gull-wing doors, and maybe phallic shaped with an accidental sad-face look to the front grill / headlight section.

where is the chain saw gonna be implemented?

Even designers need direction. Else you get to the point where Apple was with Jony Ive.

Elon was very good at setting far-out goals people could work towards while defining (barely) achievable milestones in between.

I couldn’t bear to listen to the call but I hear that Elon sounded very “down” on it.

Note that I have no stock in the company, I just like the cars and hope for them to be around when I buy my next one.
But usually, when I like something, it’s not a good sign for mass-adoption

Elon already did this about a year or so ago (much to the disdain of the public) - but word is if utilization of the factories doesn’t improve, they’ll have to take even more drastic steps.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Tuesday that China’s decision to block the exports of rare earth magnets in response to President Trump’s tariffs will slow the rate of production for the company’s Optimus robots, which are set to perform human daily functions.

He will also have a problem selling his energy storage units as approximately 40% of Tesla’s battery material suppliers are based in China which will be a big price increase due to tariffs.

Only those sold in US.

The days are long gone, when president JFK, said before the end of the decade man will land on the moon. And they did it without him.

There’s a narrative of Tesla collapsing sales in “Europe”, floating around.

The European Automobile Manufacturer’s Association (ACEA) presents car registration numbers for EU and EU + EFTA (CH+Norway+Iceland) + UK.

It seems the Q12025 drop in Tesla sales (~40%) is biased by a stop in production to prepare for a new model. Drop in sales for March after production resumed may be more representative (~30%) of ongoing political events.

Tesla had 10,280 insurance registrations in China last week vs 14,800 in the same week in 2024.

I doubt the Elon effect has reached China but the tariffs are probably causing anti american resentment.

Speaking of the Elon effect I saw two Tesla’s today here in Switzerland with “apology” stickers.

I’ve seen quite a few of them, too. “I bought this before I realised Elon was crazy”.

Here in Zug its not necessary, but advisable in Geneva or Vaud unless you want to come back to a Tesla couverte d’œufs.

Congress coming for EV manufacturers.

Looks like 0% financing is back for Model 3 in Switzerland.
The configurator for Model Y doesn’t seem to be online right now.

Sales of new Tesla vehicles in China dropped 58% from the previous week and 69% year-over-year during the week of May 5 to 11, according to insurance registration data shared on Chinese social media on Tuesday.

The company sold 3,070 vehicles last week, including 1,300 units of the refreshed Model Y and 1,800 Model 3s.

I doubt the Elon effect has reached China but probably the trade war has unleashed anti US sentiment.

BYD continued to lead the market with 68,000 vehicles sold last week in China, of which 3,000 are from its sub-brand Denza. Year to date, the group sold 967,800 vehicles — both hybrid and fully electric — in China.
