My other question is: why is beer so expensive there? Why is it cheaper to get a pint in Zermatt (with its massive transport costs) compared to Paddy Reilly's?
Stoped by there last year around this time and the service was awful (a Guiness with half a head drawn by a Swissy who didn't know what he was doing). What happened to the bartender George?
George came and went and came and went again. He was a victim of two things - pre-EU free-permits-for-all days and Jerry not wanting to keep the same staff for too long in case he got ripped-off (IMO).
Too bad to hear about George. Other than Baba over at the pump-house on the lake, he was the best bartender in Zurich.
If that's the comparison...

****Paddy Reilly's is the only place where they tried to rip me off twice in a row. After I closed the first tab I had 2 more drinks and they tried to charge me 240.-!!! for that. After I told the bar tender he became very unfriendly and finally brought the check for 20.-. I gave him 200.- and he came back with 80.-! ****
I would just like to offer my feedback in relation to this incident. I wrote to Mr Doe a few weeks ago asking him to remove this post, as I thought it was totally unacceptable. Below is my mail, and within it you can read the reasons why I found it out of order:
Hi Mr Doe.
In regarding to your experience in Paddy Reilly's, I'd like to offer my viewpoint if that's ok.
I'm the manager/licensee, and was working on said evening in Paddy's. I had worked the lunch, spent the afternoon in the office, and was upstairs again for the start of the evening shift around 5 and worked through til 23.00.
I vividly remember the discussion between yourself my colleague, who is one of my full-time bartenders with over 10 years experience, and who is as honest as the day is long.
When questioned regarding the total bill, he clearly explained to you that he had previously merely printed out a sub-total at your colleagues request. No money was asked for or handed over at that point. Some time later, my colleague was given 170 francs (The bill stood at approx 165 chf, and he was told to keep the rest.) A few more rounds of Vodka Red Bull were consumed, and you asked for the bill. Initially he gave you the complete bill, including the 170 that had already been paid. After a few minutes of discussion, he confirmed that 170 had already been paid, and you were then charged a further 80 francs I believe. I can 100% confidently say to you now that you were neither ripped off, nor short changed, but charged exactly for what you had consumed. I really don't consider it fair that after the consumation of almost a whole bottle of vodka between 2 people, plus other drinks, a SOBER, proffessional bartender is then publicly accused of cheating you. He was also not aggressive or unfriendly, simply frustrated that his point was not getting through to you having tried to explain it as clearly as possible.
I would appreciate it if your post would be removed immediatley from this site, and I apologise for any confusion in this case. I am standing behind my member of staff on this matter, and hope that there are no hard feelings to be carried over. We value all of our customers equally, and like to treat them all as our friends. This attitude/mentality helps us develop strong relationships in the community, and allows to get stronger and be more successful.
Kind regards, Kris Watkins, manager Paddy Reilly's
I wrote the mail on the 5th of February, and have not received any acknowledgement of it.
Thanks, Kris
I personally think Paddys are doing a sterling job, you definitely have some of the best bar staff in town.
I understand your point about a "one-time poster", and the weight their comments hold, but felt I had to give an honest feedback for the "one-time readers" too!!
Yep have to agree, anywhere that will stick on Exeter City vs Forest Green Rovers at the request of a lone crazed fan is OK in my book
Terry, if you catch us at the right time, you'll see Irish greyhound racing occassionally on a Monday night too!!!
BTW Big Mac, where's Debbie been? Is she still working at Paddy's?
Maybe Lob or one of the other mods could give John Doe a week or 2 to substantiate his post or remove it, if he doesn't then delete the post.
