An update to the CDC’s vaccine schedule seems to contradict Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s plan to only recommend their use to children with underlying conditions.
In a video posted on X earlier this week, Kennedy said the CDC would no longer recommend the Covid-19 vaccine for healthy children or healthy pregnant women
But an update Thursday to the CDC’s website says that children “may” get the Covid vaccine if their parents and doctors want them to, a so-called shared clinical decision-making recommendation.
No doubt it will change again on Monday
To me, it’s not a total contradiction. There’s a difference between requiring a vax, recommending it, or just saying it’s fine if you want and your doctor agrees it is suitable.
I do think some people will forego the vax if it’s not officially recommended, but if the message is at least has “talk to your doctor” then those who are interested will find their way. Doctors would be free to recommend the vax if they think it’s appropriate.
Some people were anti-vax or anti- specific vaxx long before Covid and RFK Jr. That hasn’t changed.
There’s also a difference between officially recommending a vaccine, and officially recommending a vaccine and then adding your own made-up false caveat that the vaccine is short-lived and not safety-tested.
This is exactly what JFK is doing with the measles vaccine.
No wonder people in the U.S. are confused.
Last week RFKjr cancelled funding for Moderna developing a generic flu vaccine.
The Department of Health and Human Services, under Kennedy’s direction, stated that the decision was made after a review concluded that continued investment in Moderna’s mRNA-based H5N1 vaccine was “not scientifically or ethically justifiable,” citing concerns that mRNA technology was “under-tested.”
They did not quote any studies supporting the under testing claim or give any details of the review.
Specific details of the review process itself—such as methodologies, data analyzed, or specific safety concerns identified—have not been publicly disclosed by HHS in the available sources.
RFKjr is known to be a skeptic of mRNA vaccines.
Er, how many people received the Covid vaccines and how many times? I had at least 8 variants.
How many people had long-term adverse effects?
Saying they haven’t had adequate testing in just a load of happy crappy..
The covid vaccines were fast tracked through the regulatory system as there was no choice. To that extent they were undertested when they were introduced. Obviously there is now considerable data on their safety. The anti-vaccine lobby is a hive of half truths and misrepresentations which fuel conspiracy theories. RFK is a disaster and not just for the USA.
@komso, he forgot the brain-eating worm.
True, but there were no red flags.
I agree there is now considerable data on their safety.
For me these mRNA vaccines are a very positive development.
New vaccines can be developed relatively quickly, and they do not contain even microscopic amounts of other materials such as mercury which is used to trigger a reaction in conventional vaccines.
To be clear I do not believe the other materials are a risk but I believe in keeping it simple.
Thimerosal is a mercury based preservative that was commonly added to vaccines. It has been largely phased out although there was not much hard data that it was actually causing a problem. It is not relevant to the mRNA vaccine issue.
He, and others have cut funding for a lot of science.
It’s a stupid move because every $1 the government spends on science, the return for the economy is $1.70.
People in the US are concerned that the Chinese are going to leap ahead in research and technology.
Trump and his cronies, by their actions, are virtually guaranteeing that this will happen.
RFKjr recommends raw milk
A new not yet peer-reviewed study shows bird flu and other flu viruses can survive in raw milk for a week
Sword of Damocles is falling
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he is removing every member of the independent panel advising the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on vaccines, an unprecedented escalation in his quest to reshape the agency.
In a Wall Street Journal op-ed released Monday, Kennedy said the move was necessary to restore faith in vaccines.
“A clean sweep is needed to re-establish public confidence in vaccine science,” Kennedy wrote.
Ahead of Kennedy’s Senate confirmation vote, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) said Kennedy pledged to maintain the panel “without changes.”
He will now stuff the panel with anti vaxxers
This may turn out to be the worst result of Trump
So happy I don’t live in the US
I don’t know, but I assume since he’s just a year younger than me that he may well have been vaccinated against measles via his school when he was a kid. That’s how I got mine though it could be that different states had different policies on these back in the day.
Just a theoretical question… for now.
Family back home are starting to worry that the day may come when they can’t get their little ones vaccinated.
I’ve been asked to look into the possibility of visiting children getting their jabs here in Switzerland.
So - planning ahead for a (hopefully unlikely) worst case scenario: In Switzerland, does one need to see a pediatrician to get the standard childhood vaxxes, or can a GP do it? Can these be done at an Apotheke?
They’d probably have to visit a paediatrician and fill in on the registration form that they are paying directly. The problem I envisage is that some shots are 2 or 3 part with a period of time in between so they would need multiple visits.
Some paeds might be reluctant to vaccinate without a medical history, too.
Would it be more practical to go up into Canada maybe?
Pharmacies here offer all kind of vaccines. But I think only as from 16 years old so a paediatrician should be contacted first.
Mileage-wise it would of course make sense to travel to Canada or Mexico for to get the jabs done if it comes down to that.
But hey, if they are already planning a visit here… two birds, one stone.
