Citigo is literally half the car compared to the smallest Tesla, which goes for less than 40k.
The apple to apple comparison would be Enyaq which is 15k more expensive than a Tesla.
The real difference is the software that Tesla currenty has and is uncomparable with any other EV brand out there. Even compared to my Porsche was like comparing a computer from 1999 and one from today, for a fraction of a price.
It’s not logical when you compare apple for apple.
A Tesla model costs the same or cheaper to comparable cars yet it is literally 10x the car. EV is all about the tech inside and everybody else is lagging decades behind Tesla.
So, not a single logical reason why anyone would not buy a Tesla today
By end of year they will FSD in Switzerland as well and they will crush the competion, not that they are not doing exactly that today
The app itself is much better compared even to Porsche’s app, updates can be done in front of your garage over the air, unlike VW, Full Self-Driving is incredible, I used it in the USA for a trip of over 6000 miles and never once had to take over control, the car was able to respond to other people flashing me when they were giving me priority to pass.
FSD will be available in Switzerland by end of year for 99 CHF a month, expect in 2 years the system to be able to take you somewhere and come back home alone and pick you up again when you need it, like working in the city center but you have no parking place.
What sold Tesla to me was the supercharger network as I don’t have a home charger. Its reliable, ubiquitous, cheap (as low as CHF 0.26 Kw off peak) and it perfectly integrates into the sat nav so if I’m driving to Munich its all worked out for me.
Against it is simply elon fucking musk, who wasn’t the obnoxious, racial supremacist wanker he is today.
Both look quite interesting. I like the Kia price (26-37K) better than the Skoda (37-52K), though. I’d hoped to keep my next car under 30K. Afterall, it’s a kennel on wheels.
Both are larger than my Daihatsu, so I think I’ll have to read up on their respective park assist features. My parking space doesn’t have too many millimeters to spare as it is…
(Speaking of Skoda, why did they kill off the Yeti? That was my dream car back in the day, but alas…)
Elon Musk is the biggest reason. Whether it’s logical or not is open to debate but morally it’s important to me and I would never buy anything to put money in his pockets.
I’d rather not have a car than buy a Tesla.
So not a single logical reason, just personal ones based on politics I imagine?
A car is probably the second most expensive item a person will buy in his lifetime so I find it peculiar anybody will base that purchase on the CEO’s politics stand rather than what that car gives when compared to the competition.
Compared to those coming out of Shanghai, it was a huge disapointment. Tesla Switzerland did try to rectify some of those panel gaps and a misaligned steering wheel, but it left a bitter taste to what was otherwise a good car.
It all depends where you come from. The guy willingly destroyed the institutional framework in the US. Long standing fight with labor union in Sweden. Fascist dog whistling in Germany and UK. Of course, this may be irrelevant if you’re not emotionally invested in any of these places, but there’s people who care.
I get that people don’t like Elon (for a variety of reasons) and thus won’t buy anything from the companies he controls.
Arguing that is usually the definition of insanity
However, when the same people then turn around and don’t have a problem with Chinese EVs, that really makes me scratch my head.
Anyway: Regarding the size of the car: you won’t find any small car for sale anywhere anymore.
Safety regulations, emission standards and buyers‘ preferences have killed them.
My parking space is actually a bit on the narrow side, too (didn’t think too much of it while I had the Lupo…). It’s ok with the Model 3, the Model Y would be borderline and anything bigger is probably a nightmare. Especially because they’re all fat-ass American cars with a horrible turning circle.
But the Model Y is generally viewed as one of the most space efficient cars of its size and its loading capacity rivals or exceeds much bigger cars.
That and dog mode is why it always comes up in discussions.
I had a Polestar as a rental in the UK for two weeks and it was a fine car with great fit and finish. However like most European cars its got an extensive options list, and if you go for a base spec model you’re punished for your miserliness. Teslas by contrast give you pretty much everything as standard, with the main options being external things such as colour, wheel size, battery size, and RWD/AWD.
My only other minor gripe with Polestars (and Volvos) is the portrait-oriented screen. If you’re sitting in the car while it’s charging, you can only watch YouTube and other video content in the top half of the display rather than enjoying glorious full-screen landscape. I couldn’t test the Polestar app because it’s disabled for rental cars, but I’d be surprised if it’s as good as the Tesla app.
